Salmon in the Classroom:The 2025-26 school year is underway and that means lots to do for Salmon in the Classroom.

On 9/18 we delivered fish tanks to our two new schools (Mullenix Elementary and Burley Christian).

We need Poggie volunteers for 11/3 thru 11/7 to deliver eggs to the seven schools participating this year.

The release dates in the spring where students will visit Jarstad Park to release their salmon are 3/30 – 4/3/2026.

If you are interested in volunteering with Salmon in the Classroom, get in touch with Louie Morton at 360.689.0118

Hatchery Volunteering:Thank you to Lou Rodriguez for coordinating hatchery volunteers this summer. We had a successful season at Gorst Creek and helped donate over 1500 lbs of salmon to local food banks. We have started work at Grovers Creek and will continue that for the coming months.

Lou typically provides monthly hatchery updates at general meetings, so please attend in person if you are interested in the hatchery work.

Volunteer opportunities at the hatcheries are usually Monday, Wednesday and Fridays with select other opportunities available during the peak of the runs. We also need help with the food banking efforts.

The tribes require a background check in order to volunteer and this year there will be a new process for all volunteers, regardless of background checks completed in previous years. The tribe has given us the process for registering as a volunteer and completing the background check. If you’d like to learn more and get involved please contact Lou Rodriguez at 360-674-8371
